Ok, here’s the first thing you need to know about magic, spells, potions, whatever. Magic and prayer are essentially the same thing. What does that mean? It means that it always “works”, whether you understand the result or not. It means that all you really NEED, is faith. It means that it can be done by anyone, at any time, in the name of any God or Goddess. You don’t need to hunt down a witch to do a spell for you, you can do it yourself.
Of course, there are going to be a few differences between spellcraft and prayer. For example, many of us believe that magic is simply science that science has yet to explain. It is believed that working a spell has a direct physical impact on the material or energy-based world. That’s why we use certain colors for certain spells. Because those colors resonate to the purpose we’re attempting to reach.
The next thing you need to know is that very basic magic is all the same, and can be adapted for any purpose, by any person, and as I said earlier in the name of any Gods or Goddesses you work in the name of. The spell I’m going to give below can be changed in innumerable ways depending on what you’re trying to do. And now for the magic portion of our show.
Basic Money Drawing Spell
To be performed during the WAXING moon
What you need:
3 green candles.~ These can be as small as household candles or as large as full jar candles. The size of the candle doesn’t matter, it’s the energy you pour into it that does. Try to make all three the same size though, just for fluidity’s sake.
“Money drawing” Incense, bath salt, and oil.
A clean white washcloth.
Charcoal and an incense burner (if you’re using powdered incense which I recommend highly) or a holder for your stick or cone incense. NOTE* This is not barbeque charcoal. It is specifically designed for incense burning and can be found in any occult shop.
Parchment, quill, and Dragon’s Blood ink, or a nice bit of paper and a pen with green ink.
Approximately 30 minutes of peace and solitude in which you will not be interrupted.
1 candle holder (for non-jar candles) and an empty pie tin, or a ceramic tile.
What you do:
First, gather your supplies. Open them up, throw away any wrappers you might need, put your pen or quill with your paper. Set up your space so that when you’re ready to go you’re not searching for things. I prefer to light my charcoal while I’m doing this so that it starts getting hot..
Next, put your incense on the hot coal, and take it, and your bath salts, into the bathroom.
Get undressed and take a shower. This shower should be about both physically and psychically cleansing yourself.. As the soap and hot water cascade off of your body and down the drain, imagine all of the dirt and bad attitudes, and general angst of the day to wash down the drain with it. Once you’re completely clean, fill your bathtub with clean water and about 1/3 of your bathsalts. (2 tbsp or so). Allow the salts to dissolve as much as they can, and then relax yourself in the bath. Breathe in the steam and the smell of the salts and incense. Let it wash over you, and begin to completely focus on the task you’re about to perform. Meditate on your purpose behind your spell, what you need the money for, or the best ways you can imagine it coming into your life. Stay there for as long as you need, until you feel you are done.
Get out of the bath, and do NOT wipe or dry off with a towel. This has the effect of actually, and emotionally, wiping away all of the effort you’ve just made. Allow yourself to air dry. I would usually take this time to cleanse my candle. Bring your incense back with you to the room you are going to do your spell in, and dampen your clean white cloth. I’ve always used my “magical bath” bathwater to do this. I was never told to, but it always felt right to me. If you want, you can do this. If you’d rather use unused water, that works too.
Physically clean the candle. If it’s a jar candle, wash or even scrape off the top layer of wax, and wash all of the dirt and fingerprints off of the jar. If it’s a household or other non-jarred candle, you can wash or scrape the top layer of wax off of these as well. Next clean all of the negative energies from the candle. You do this by holding the bottom of the candle to your solar plexus and taking that same cloth, pulling it in a counter-clockwise (or deosil [jesh’ul]) (OK, I’m an idiot. WIDDERSHINS is counter-clockwise. Deosil is Clockwise … I told you it’s been a long week…) movement away from your body. While doing this, imagine all of the energies of random strangers who’ve touched this candle, or the guy who was boxing them up at the factory and having a hard day, or the shop owners who stocked it while worrying about money, or whatever, being pushed out of the candle. See the darkness flowing out of it, and dispersing into nothingness, overcome with the incense.
Next “charge” the candle with your energies and purpose. Take two fingers of oil (if it’s a jar candle, or a dime sized drop rubbed between your hands if it’s not) and rub it into the wax. Hold the candle against yourself, and focus on bringing in money. See how it will come to you, see the job you will get, hear the job offer, feel the feeling of depositing that first big paycheck into the bank. Pour every ounce of passion and faith and belief you have into the candle. When you feel that it is sufficiently charged (remember, there is NO right or wrong amount of time) set it down
Write on the parchment. Ask for the money you need, list the reasons you need it, create a short prayer or poem or chant. Whatever seems right to you to write down. Fold this paper and put it in the pie tin under the candle holder. Put the candle into the holder, and light it. PLEASE, use a lighter, or a lighting stick lit off of another existing flame to do this. DO NOT use matches. Sulfur is not an element you wish to bring to any peaceful spell. Well, maybe some, but none that I can think of.
I would always take some time after lighting the candle to meditate some more on the flame. We were given a chant to use which was:
“Money money come to me,
Money money, to set me free,
As I will, so mote it be.”
I’m going to tell you right now. I tried that chant once. I felt utterly ridiculous. If you wish to use it more power to you, but I couldn’t do it without breaking down laughing at the sheer absurdity of it.
And there you have it folks, your first spell. I hear you saying, “but Alyana! You told us to get 3 candles, and you’ve only explained the use of one of them!” Well that’s true. You’re going to repeat the spell on three successive nights. Also, if you’ve got a jar candle, go ahead and ignore the “only keep lit for 7 hours” … Just let it go until it’s gone. That will take several days, when you’re done with one, start the next one.
A spell for just about anything can be done using this basic recipe. Here are a few things you should know before you do. Spells for gain are done during the waxing moon. That means while it’s getting bigger, so the new to the full moon. Reversal spells, or spells to push something away are best during the waning moon.
Green ~ Money, nature
Blue ~ Health, peace, harmony
Black ~ cleansing, absorbing of negativity, renewal, protection
Orange ~ Luck
Pink ~ Romantic love
Red ~ Lust
Yellow ~ Success
Purple ~ Spirituality
White ~ Purity, enlightenment.
Brown ~ Material things, home/car/possessions, etc
If your favorite occult shop doesn’t have a specific line of products for whatever your spell wants, take the time to research what herbs might work. Although if you ask whomever works there, they’ll usually know what you can use that will work.
Also remember that tools are just that, tools. Can you put together that Ikea bookshelf with nothing but a butter knife and your wits? Yeah probably, but most people prefer screwdrivers and directions. These are your directions. The things I listed above are your screwdrivers. Use them if you need them. Don’t think you’re doing it wrong if you’re not comfortable using a tool. I didn’t let policy dictate that I would use a strange chant in my spells after all, and they’ve all worked just fine.
Good luck everyone, please let me know if I didn’t explain something thoroughly enough, or if you have any other questions. I’m sorry it took me so long to get this post up, but it’s been a long ass week. Back to stories tomorrow, I promise.
